MY STORY


Who am I ?
I am Debashis Bhattacharyya, a self-taught cook and recipe developer. I was born in Kolkata, the city of Joy. I grew up and lived in different states in India across various parts of the country introducing myself to a world of assortment that exists in my own country due to its cultural and demographic diversity before moving to the United States. I am a voracious foodie with huge admiration for Chef Grant Achatz and inquisitive of both Indian and international cuisines. I live in St Louis, Missouri, with my wife Soundharya and together raise our 3 year old bundle of joy, Rihaan . My wife is my guinea pig and also my biggest critic. And yes ,she was instrumental towards this blog.

How I started cooking ?
I started cooking at the age of 14 ,I still remember my first complete dish was Gobi Masala and I had cooked it using a recipe from the cook book that came free with a Prestige Pressure Cooker. My mom is my biggest inspiration and my idol. My mom and dad were Government officers and were posted mainly in very remote towns in the Himalayas but that never stopped my mom from experimenting in the kitchen with whatever tools and amenities she had available to her. Cooking has always been my passion and I have always cherished to take some time out to cook innovative and delectable dishes.

Why the site ?
I have always believed in breaking the boundaries to amalgamate and build new flavors. My intention is also to revolutionize two myths – 1. All Indian Food is spicy , well it is not. 2. We are a $12 all you can eat buffet cuisine.
This site is a platform to showcase the variety India has to offer to the world of food and also a way of introducing Progressive Indian dishes influenced and inspired by International Cuisines to the world. I have always shared my recipes with my friends and family however I felt the urge to start sharing them more globally. 
 
What to Expect here ?
This site is a collection of my experiences in the kitchen talking about some of my tricks and the subtle twists I make to some of the established recipes to bring out different tastes in the platter. It showcases my love and respect for this art .
You have access to various vegan, vegetarian, sea food, meat based recipes and some cocktails. You can navigate using the menu bar or by clicking on the picture of the dish from the home page.
